Holistic/Support Services

A cancer diagnosis can be very stressful for patients and their families. The Joe and Virginia Schmissratuer Centers for Cancer Support offer a full range of holistic care for the mind, body and spirit—from education and financial support information to dietary counseling, stress management and more. All support services are free to cancer patients regardless of where they receive their treatment. 

SUPPORT GROUPS

Breast and Gynecological Cancer Support Group
For women diagnosed with breast or gynecological cancer. Every Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. CHI Memorial Center for Cancer Support, Memorial Plaza, Suite 307. For more information, call Debrah at (423) 495-7778.

Cancer Support Group
For all cancer patients, their families and friends. Every Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. CHI Memorial Center for Cancer Support, Memorial Plaza, Suite 307. For more information, call Betsy at (423) 495-4009 or (423) 495-7778.

Colon Cancer Support Group
For any person who has been affected by colon cancer. 2nd Thursday each month, 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CHI Memorial Center for Cancer Support, Memorial Plaza, Suite 307. For more information, call Kim at (423) 495-7827.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Support Group
For patients and caregivers affected by Leukemia or Lymphoma. 1st Thursday each month, 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. CHI Memorial Center for Cancer Support, Memorial Plaza, Suite 307. For more information, call Gerre at (423) 495-7778.

Multiple Myeloma Support Group
For Patients, families, caregivers and friends who are living with Multiple Myeloma. 2nd Thursday each month, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. CHI Memorial Center for Cancer Support, Memorial Plaza, Suite 307. For more information, call Rhonda or Betsy at (423) 495-7778.

Prostate Cancer Support Group
For men who have experienced prostate cancer. Spouses, family and friends are welcome to attend. 2nd Thursday each month, 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon. MaryEllen Locher Conference Room (Enter at the Outpatient Services /West Medical Office Building entrance on Glenwood Avenue. Please ask a volunteer at the information desk to escort you to the MaryEllen Locher Conference Room.) For more information, call (423) 495-7778.

Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer 
SPOHNC's National Survivor Volunteer Network is a wonderful program. The Match Program is especially helpful for those who are unable to get to a group meeting or who live in an area where there may not currently be a group that meets each month. Phone support can be very helpful to those who are just beginning treatment or having issues with side effects following treatment. SPRITUAL CARE SERVICES

As you and your family face cancer diagnosis, treatment and survival, CHI Memorial’s chaplains are available for counseling and prayer. Your needs may require only a brief prayer or a more intensive faith discussion. Our mission is to provide aid, comfort and respect. Services are available at  CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga and CHI Memorial Hospital Hixson.
