Gynecological Cancer

Some of the area’s most experienced cancer specialists work with CHI Memorial to address women’s health concerns with skill, sensitivity and professionalism. Through our gynecological oncology services, patients benefit from our multidisciplinary approach and our focus on treating the whole patient and her family, not just the cancer. We are committed to quality in screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.

Diagnosis and treatment

Our goal is to reduce the time from diagnosis to treatment and lower anxiety levels for you. We specialize in treating many types of cancer, including ovarian, endometrial, uterine, cervical, vaginal and vulvar. Once a diagnosis is made, specialists from many disciplines meet together to develop the optimum treatment plan for you, considering all the latest treatment options.

Treatment often includes a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. When hospitalization is required, comprehensive care is provided in a dedicated cancer unit by specially trained caregivers.

Technology

The da Vinci® robotic surgical system at CHI Memorial provides superior 3-D visualization. Surgeons use robotic arms to perform gynecological surgeries through keyhole incisions. The proven benefits to gynecologic cancer patients include less pain, less blood loss, less risk of infection, faster recovery and fewer transfusions.

Brachytherapy, technology that allows radioactive material to be placed directly inside the body at the tumor site, allows a higher dose of radiation, killing more cancer cells while reducing damage to surrounding tissue.

Support at every step

At CHI Memorial Rees Skillern Cancer Institute, anyone diagnosed with cancer has access to a nurse navigator, a designated point of contact who can educate you on the disease process, answer questions, help you prepare physically and emotionally for treatment, provide resources and connect you with other modes of support throughout this journey. These include access to dietitians, clinical social workers, massage therapists, and chaplains who focus on spiritual care and advance care planning.
